these are some idea of how to do the poster and hide the face i like the last one were its dark and the people round him are lit up like shadows. the rest are also equally impressive for a poster ideas

ideas for posters

I chose these pictures because i think the poster or magazine could have similar designs. These images have like a dark background surrounding the images . This hides the faces and shows a dark side and a light side to the character which is what we are aiming to show in the video. I think this will be good because it relates to are film and makes him mysterious and strange towards the audience.

costumes

Our lead protagonist will be wearing a gee which will be white top and black pants with a black belt. he will also be wearing some black pumps. We also designed the hood or throw over he will be wearing to hide his face. the costume will be basic black and white to clash and make him stand out. Are protagonist is a adult so the costume should look real and athentic in the camera. The hood is being made by Luke's gran and will be there on the day o the shoot.

These pictures are some of our ideas for shots that we have decided on. We think that we should have the protagonist with their hood up, hiding their face in shadow, an air of mystery around them. Another idea could be the use of a silhouette of a wolf behind the protagonist holding his sword. The angle an position of the sword is yet to be decided.

Lighting

Are lighting will be done by lamps i will bring in. They are going to be tested and used on thursday during the filming in the dance studio. We are looking for lighting that is dark and right enough to hide the characters face and light him up. We also are bringing in a weapon and making it shine with the light. The fantasy genre tends to be dark vs light and we are putting it together and creating a mysterious scene. Also we are using the design to the enhance lighting in the room. The lighting was tested and approved and here are some pics of what it looks like:

Music

This is our groups favourite music track as we believe that it will suit our film perfectly as well as breaking the rules for the average fantasy genre.

Target audience

As with all films, We need an audience. We need a specific target age to which we can associate with the film. Our group has decided on a Teen to middle age audience. this film has young fantasy elements that capture the essence of youth and imagination but essential has a dark and mysterious construct that is more appropriate to and young adult audience. i would put the target between 16-25. this may have been noted in a previous post, but this is our final choice and overall audience decision.

Location shots for running scene

Our second location needs to fit the typical fantasy genre. Our group has decided that our running scenes should be set within Cross hills- a forest park within the Clitheroe area. The forest location fits our genre as it give the sense of escapism, a woodland area giving the sense of a somewhere , set apart from reality. our pictures are as follows.

Importance of branding

For the film industry, branding is of great importance. Each company has its own design and logo that makes it individual to the industry and gives it that quality that allows it to stand out. Branding is important as it allows that specific company or industry to stand out and reach out to particular audiences, depending on the genre.

Good group! Don't forget to comment on the importance of branding for the film industry ( your institution) link to other films also- make sure you have analysed the videos you have put on your blog, and what your films brand image is .....

- Research - which studio will produce your film and why?

- Planning - make sure you have put your target audience questionnaires and results on here
- Storyboard and animatic with comments
- shooting schedule and call sheets
- health and safety form
- props list
- cast list
- other location shots (woods?) costume shots/ideas etc...

Character Casting

At first when we decided to do a fantasy teaser trailer, Members of our group wanted to be in the film as either the lead protagonist or as an extra. After careful consideration we have decided to have an outsider with more martial arts skills to be the lead protagonist. So the task came to me to find one seeing as I attend ju-jitsu classes and know a lot of people who were skilled and experienced at martial arts. At first I was able to get one of my friends called Charlie to be our lead protagonist. A picture of him is shown below.

The only problem with the timing of our filming is that he is rarely free as he still goes to college. This became a positive move for us as my Sensei (Lee) has become interested in the project and he has a lot of marshal arts experience. He also owns three katanas and he has a lot more free time. This is be better for scheduling times and dates to film So Lee has become our lead protagonist. A picture of him is shown below.

location ideas

These pictures are ideas for out locations for our film teaser trailer. we decided to do a scene in the college dance studio but we needed it to be closed off. our first location was too clean and flashy to work with our genre, as it had windows so it could not be used at it was open to the fields behind, thus breaking our fantasy illusion. out second location suited us better. it had no windows and had an overlooking platform from which to film our overhead and birds eye view shots.

Pictures of our first location above. idea for this location rejected. windows leave it open to fields behind and disrupt the fantasy location.

overhead shots to show our location of choice for our training room shot. opted location. closed off and overhead platform works for high overlooking shots.

Aspects of the teaser trailer- casting, props and location ideas.

Our group has come up with several ideas for our casting. However, due to lack of resources, we have been unable to create our trailer with a female protagonist, opting now for the usual male hero, very common in mainstream fantasy. We took time to come up with our ideas and it was luke who found our casting member. Our group members will not be starring as any main characters in the teaser trailer but may have a background part to follow up on. Our original idea of the sword being used has been dropped due to the fact that i was not able to acquire permission for use. we have decided of our location- a park in Clitheroe for which we do not yet know the name. more information on this will be posted in later blogs.

Representation

Representation of our film will be fantasy. The characters that will appear in are film will be the protagonists (NAME) and a secondary Character who is evil (NAME) who is trying to stop him. they will be represented by the clothes they were and how they appear in the movie. The protagonists will be wearing black while but hiding his face to make him mysterious. the evil guy will be different in the sense he will have a different face and ragged clothes that are dirty. We will create them as a fantasy stereotypes i.e. magic and impossible fighting. We will be doing this through the types of costume and props and surroundings we will be using to create the real effect and make it believable. Walter Lippmann's four functions are

An ordering process
A short cut
An expression of our values and beliefs

Target audience.

for my film trailer, my Group have settled on a target audience of ages 12 to 25 specifically aimed at the male population. Socio-economic status on my trailer would not be aimed a specific group, encompassing all groups from A to E, although Groups A to B would generally prefer to watch a more intellectual standard of film, quite often independent cinema. Stereotypically, the fantasy genre is of male orientation due to the action, the over exaggerated fight scenes and the violence that entails, plus the usual male protagonist.

However, main audience covered, secondary targets would be audiences consisting of women, couples, and the older 25s.

Psychographic profiling- Mainstreamers. As my trailers is done based on a hollywood film it will be based and aimed at the larger proportion of the film audience. Mainstreamers are the main percentage of the audience summing up to 40% of the overall audience, being the group that goes for the well known brands.

A good start group! Good on branding and the fantasy genre.

Remember to outline the conventions of the teaser trailer - what is their aim and what do they usually do?

Now focus on your target audience - you need an age range, gender bias, race and socio-economic status (if relevant.) Remember you can have secondary audiences that are wider but you need a more specific target - dont forget to use Young and Rubicon for your psychographic profiling too. Dont forget to put your questionnaires and results on here also.

Now move on and look quickly at your other key concepts and we should be starting to see some planning - location shots/casting shots/storyboards and animatics etc... Remember to outline your film and brand image you are trying to create/push through your products.

The Typical Fantasy genre

For our project, our group had decided on a fantasy genre. this element like all genres, had traits that were invidual to the specific category/genre.

A quote from the fantasy genre page on filmsite.org states: 'Fantasy films are often in the context of the imagination, dreams, or hallucinations of a character or within the projected vision of the storyteller. Fantasy films often have an element of
magic, myth, wonder, escapism, and the extraordinary. They may appeal to both children and adults, depending upon the particular film'

Such elements of escapsim can exist in the form of:

  • Magic
  • swordplay
  • magic carpets
  • magic creatures such as elves, dwarves, dragons, and pretty much anything that you could make up; ranging from the most timid and beautiful wonders to bloodthirsty vicious terrors.

2. Films i believe to be of a strong fantasy genre are films such as lord of the rings and eragon, such as the Video clips that follow:

Eragon:

Harry potter:

Outlining of our chosen genre

we have massively researched our genre conventions. The fantasy genre very much consists of fantasy world, focused around the unreal and imaginative environment within which the characters reside.

Action in fantasy is very much breaking the boundaries of reality with over the top fight scenes and the over-exaggeration of a persons physical limitations to the world around them, quite often scaling buildings, jumping off sheer cliff faces to land unscathed or single characters taking on whole armies single handedly.

The Mise en scene is typically of one extreme to the next when looking at the fantasy element. a landscape can be barren, being decimated by war and violence or as a contrast it could be situated in woodlands or brightly lit forests which is the extreme signifier for peace and solitude compared to the idea of a broken land as shown by the war torn wasteland.

Our USP

Our main unique selling point with the fantasy action adventure film would be the fact that we are using a female protagonist. Many fantasy films have male actors as the leading role, as shown below in the lord of the rings trailer.

Outline Genre

From the very start, our group decided on a republic democracy that we should base our film genre on fantasy, this was manly decided when researching different genres to decide our overall one.

The one teaser trailer that inspired us the most is the one for The Last Air Bender.

Another element that influenced us were the move clips from a game called dynasty warriors.

The Institution

Our genre of Fantasy would be more suited to a Hollywood high concept film,

The best Institution for our media text is paramount pictures as thay have a lot of high concept films such as Iron man, Stardust, Star wars and The Last Air Bender.

History- Teaser trailers

The teaser trailer was developed as a away of attracting an intense attention to a new film but giving minimal hints of the film, thus leading to an enlightened interest and excitement. The use of the teaser trailer is used primarily in hollywood and enters cinemas, tagging onto the start of existing films.

Teaser trailers come months before the product itself is released, sometimes even years. Even when the film is still being made, they quite often give no film title or release date, leaving the audience interested. They do not need to develop narrative or character profiles and are usually full of enigmas.

Trailers are generally between 30-60 seconds in total length but occasionally have been known to exceed this to a maximum of 90 seconds. the first trailer. the first teaser trailer created was for superman by Richard Donner, shown in Cinemas which was released in 1978, around 6 months after the trailer.

This idea for the teaser trailer was soon after taken up for the batman film 'the dark night'.

Ideas of branding

Branding is important to a project because it will enable us to get the audience associated with our product. It is created using the peoples association to are particular type of product e.g. an image and message that the audience connect with which gets them to watch the product again and again.

Brands are created through 8 elements...
brand essence what the brand means in a sentence? e.g coca cola is enjoyable

brand slogan Often a Catchfrase linked to a logo? e.g. always coca cola

Brand & personality what kind of character does the brand have humanizes the brand make it easier to relate to? happyness

brand values what does it stand for/against? enjoyable fun

brand apprance what does it look like/sound like/taste like? eg coca cola looks fun bright and colourfull, soudns like enjoyable fun and taste great

brand heritage what kind of traition does it have? it has the tradition of fun for kids

emotional benefits what feelings does it offer consumers? fun happyness

hard benefits is it cheaper better does it wash whiter?

What real quantifle benefits does it offer the buyer?

for exmaple the film dead or alive has its own branding image on the poster

On the film Dead or alive it has its own branding for example it means in a sentace dead or alive and that is the logo as well. its charector can be descovered in the name and dead or alive along with the picture of 5 girls with swords. it relates is because te world is full or fighting and people are either dead or alive in the world. it brand values stand for fighting can be good or bad. the film looks like women can be as powerfull as men and the colours of light surounded by dark. It taste like action adventure and for boys hot girls. since this is a new film the only brand heritage can come from the makers constintine film who have made movies like appoclato fantasic 4 resident evil asult on prescict 13 and domino. it offers feeling that women can be as powefull as men and gives ideologies that good allways defeats evil.

Ideas

The other day me and my group were talking about doing a fantasy but fight style of film promotion, i.e karate or kung fu. Well I found this video and because we have the local park near college we could do something like this. However in our video the weapons might have to be changed. This link is a basic idea of our groups plans:

Also we were advised not to try filming a sexy scene but i think it would be possible. My ideas focused around doing something similar to a scene from the Bond film 'tomorrow never dies'. I would appreciate opinions on my ideas because I think it would be better than doing one scene that is the same the whole way through. it should vary its ideas to create interest. follow thew link I have posted:
